During the wonderful craziness of last weekend, Tony and Brendan forgot to post the pictures of the new headboard, and box spring and mattress in the Blue Room. The headboard is uncharacteristically brand new as it is very difficult to find queen size headboards that are actually vintage Victorian. The mattress is, of course, brand new. It arrived here a week ago today. Our first guests who slept on it noted how it was a great combination of soft and firm. We hope that all visitors to our Blue Room find it as comfortable.

Brendan and Tony hear from many friends in the New York City area that there's nothing to do upstate. We'd like to dispel that idea by listing some really cool things to do near the Greene House Inn now that summer is in full swing. All of these events are within a 90 minute drive.

If you're not a New Yorker and have never been, you must go. If you've already been, you must go...again. We love the State Fair... the midway, the displays, the animals, the people, the MILK. Brendan and Tony are looking forward to spending some time there again this year. If any event seems interesting and you are thinking about visiting us, please let us know. Tony and Brendan just finished up our first full weekend as AirBnB hosts at the Greene House Inn. The area was abuzz with Hall of Fame weekend in Cooperstown and all our guests stayed at the Greene House Inn for that purpose.
It was wonderful to hear stories as to why they came, what HoF inductee was their favorite. The good-humored rivalry among the guests (Red Sox vs. Braves, specifically). A great set of people leading to a great time. It was a bit sad to see them go. But we're looking forward to this upcoming weekend. A full house again, with all guest going to the Glimmerglass Opera festival. All the linens are washed, the beds are remade, and we're ready to go. One of the ideas that Brendan had when welcoming guests to the Greene House Inn was to have a flag for the place from which they are coming and have them hanging from the front porch. He thought it would be fun to have a familiar landmark for our guests and to make them feel a little special about the visit. Tonight our guests are from Florida, and two sets of guests from Virginia (one set by way of Brooklyn). We are always thrilled to have people from such diverse locations. Next week, we welcome our first international visitors. Check back to see what flags we have hanging then.
Well, our first guests are due to arrive on Thursday and Tony and Brendan couldn't be more excited. This past weekend was essentially doing our best getting all the rooms in as good a condition as we can within our current budget. (Sorry no pictures this time around.)
New screen on the front door, new end tables in the Blue Room, a new table in the Lavender Room, and new lighting (lamps) in the Twins Room. Tony's cousin, Evelyn, runs an AirBnB location in Brooklyn, NY and has a great checklist that we will do our best to follow as she's been so successful at her venture. We'll definitely post our experiences of this weekend next week, so please stay tuned. In the meantime, we've done a lot of updates to the What's Around section on the site so that folks who come visit can have some idea of things to do (even though it's Cooperstown big weekend coming up). Another successful auction for Tony and Brendan yesterday. At first, we thought that it was going to be overpriced throughout the entire ordeal. However, after Brendan purchased a rug for the Blue Room, things start picking up for us. We ended up buying a beautiful picture for above the living room, a couple of tables for the Blue Room, and a few other pictures as well, which are now hung throughout the house. Again, if you are an auction loving person, we do strongly recommend Michael's.
We just realized that we never did get a new photo of the bed in the Lavender Room.
There is a bit of a long story about why the first picture was there and not the current one. It all started when we actually purchased the entire bedroom set for a great price over at Michael's auctions. It is an antique Eastlake Victorian bedroom set. We were so thrilled to get it. We got it home. My sister gave us a very good condition full size bed to place into our new find. However, unbeknownst to us, this bedroom set is so antique that the full size bed did not fit into the frame. It was what was known as a three quarter bed. Essentially, the bed frame was too short by 4 inches. We now had a choice. Either to find a three quarter bed, which is nearly impossible, or to go find someone to build us sideboards that would be the appropriate length. We chose the latter. At one of the visits to the Mohawk Produce Auction near Fort Plain, there were some brand new queen bed sets up for auction as well, made my Amish craftsmen. We asked one of the Amish gentleman who happened to be leaning on one of the bedroom sets if he knew who made them. He told us he did not, however he believes his father could help us out with our dilemma. Well, it took about 6 weeks because of hardware issues. But we finally got the side boards from our new friend, Wayne. If you are visiting us and staying in the Lavender Room, or it is not being occupied during your visit, we welcome you to see the craftsmanship that Wayne did, because it is amazing. So happy to report that all three rooms are up on AirBnB. Now just waiting for more people to come join us and experience the Greene House Inn.

About the BlogBrendan and Tony are not the Beekman Boys and will not get an HGTV Series to show our progress (although we're open to the concept). So instead, here's our blog of what's new at the Greene House Inn and the adventures in and around Fort Plain, NY. Archives
